How I got started in music: I guess it started with Spike Ostmann, my uncle. Yea, he is young for an uncle. He was already in a band (See the Former Musicians page) and playing guitar around the house. So, he started to teach me a few Link Wray tunes. My dad was a drummer. So when I was about 5, I took his drum sticks and punched in the heads ‘cause it was fun! What the hell was I thinking? But he had a guitar around the house that I started fooling around with. As the saying goes "necessity is the mother of invention". A few years ago, I found it necessary to go from backup singing to lead singing. So I began formal voice lessons with Gary Schwartz.

Dating myself here, my first recollection and interest in joining a band was back in Junior High School (long enough ago they did not call it Middle School). I was in awe of the music and bands of the time. A local band playing school dances called "Fancy Colours" which had keyboards and a small brass section and played music in the style of the band Chicago helped to develop my interest in music. I studied piano and drums and I performed in the Wheaton Precisionettes/Majorettes & Drum Corps. A small group of us formed a garage band that played at Junior High Teen Club dances and "battle of the bands" events. It was a blast.
My musical tastes moved from "heavy metal" and "hard rock" to southern rock and protests style music of the 60's and 70's. It wasn't until 1998 that I got back into drumming, thanks to my friend and co-worker, Rick Pelicano. "Cops & Robbers" were looking for a drummer and I sat in at a practice to "keep a beat" so they could work on their song list until they found a drummer. Drumming was like riding a bike, it all came back (though pretty rusty) and I found a spot in the band playing Classic Rock, Southern Rock and Blues. As a drummer, I was "on again/off again" with the band. I rejoined the group in 2004, now with a number of new faces and talents. With the new influences of Mike, Dave, and Dan, the band doubled its' song list and versatility.

How I got started playing music: It all started in 1979, a dark room, massive sound waves bouncing everywhere I went, yes, a band playing. I can't remember what the name of the band was, but there was a lot of people having a great time. Well, I knew at that time I wanted to be part of that scene; in the crowd, but most of all, on stage. This is the moment that I look back on. That very next day I begged my parents for a guitar. My very first guitar was a Les Paul Standard, like Ace Frehley of Kiss. Several years later, I realized that all the bands I played in had great guitar players, but never a bass player whom fit the bill. I decided at that moment to start playing bass and haven't stopped since. Most of the bands I have played in were jam bands, but I have had many great bands that include Jazz, classic rock, country, blue grass, blues and even Metal, like thrash metal, speed metal, death metal, and even old school metal. I am still very active in playing metal and love every part of it. I currently am playing in a second band, (yes metal) called LIFE DENIED. But don't think I am only interested in metal. I still have all the other types of music in my blood.
Musical Talents: Guitar, Backup Vocals
How I got started playing music: Although, I really started "performing" as a child (singing along to Elvis records); I didn't start playing seriously until I was sixteen. Since then I've been with quite a few small time rock bands, including one band with Mike Mushroom back in 1985-1986 that played lots of parties and local clubs. I've also taken Music Theory at Montgomery College and Studio techniques at Omega Studios in Rockville, MD. Recently, after leaving what was then Uncle Fester; Mike called me and asked if I'd like to audition for Cops & Robbers Band. I joined the group in April of 2004. What I really enjoy about this band is the wide range of material that we cover and the sense of family we share. I'm also thrilled to be able to play in front of live audiences again.
I apologize for not remembering my past...............
